The Story of Wally the Whale
Wally the Whale worked at a job he liked, but he had a long swim in to work every day. It took a long time for him to get there and get back home--time he could have spent working if only he could work from home. So he decided to ask his boss if he could do that. The problem is, he needed a new laptop to support the software, and his boss wouldn't buy the computer for him.
This gave Wally a lot to consider. If he bought a new computer, it could cost him $2,000. That was the limit on his credit card. Maybe the computer store would have some sort of offer. And he was right. They did. And he even got a discount for getting the store card! But his line of credit was only extended to the amount it took to get the computer, so when he needed accessories, he put them on his regular credit card.
Now, Wally didn't make enough money to pay cash for these things. He barely made ends meet the way it was. But he could spend more time working now that he didn't have that commute, which meant more money in his salary. That's what helped him justify his buying a Mac notebook. Justifying the iPod (and all the accessories that went with that) was a little more difficult. Of course, the only person he had to answer to was himself, but still...he felt a little guilty. Especially when he found out that the credit card companies were making the required minimums 4% of the balance instead of 2%. He could barely keep things afloat before, but now it was next to impossible.
One night Wally was watching late night t.v. because he couldn't sleep. (He was too stressed about his financial situation.)
